Bed bugs are commonly found on mattress, this is also true with hotels. In the past years, complaints about bed bugs in hotels have been very common.

This should not be surprising because bed bugs attack everywhere without exceptions and even luxurious hotels can be infested. Rumors about bed bug infestations on hotels have caused a buzz around its regular patrons.

It is said that bed bugs on hotels are mutated bed bug genes which are immune to the ordinary insecticides used against them. This may sound too unreal but sometimes the truth is scary.

Even before World War II, the hotels’ bed bug infestation problem has been common in the United States. However, the infestation has suddenly declined in the year 1940’s to 1950’s.

The extensive use of DDT dusting and the improved sanitary conditions have caused bed bugs to vanish in an instant. But their counterparts in other parts of the world like Asia, Africa and Europe have continued to flourish.

After some bed bug-free years, they have returned and hotels have been struck too. Hotel infestations maybe have been caused by the increasing number of travelers and tourists occupying their suites and unknowingly bringing in unwanted visitors. A single adult bed bug can infest the whole hotel and can start a long lasting generations of bed bugs.

Some experts believe that the rebirth of these pests in the hotels is a result of the reduced quality of pesticides used today. It could be remembered that the DDT have effectively curtailed the bed bugs’ population in the hotels during 1960’s but because its use is prohibited, controlling hotel bed bugs today is virtually not possible.

Bed bugs have continued its wrath and have even started infesting even exclusive hotels. It is a common misconception that bed bugs only flourish on cheap, musty hotels but the truth is that even five star hotels can have bed bugs lurking on their beds. There have been some lawsuits filed by unsatisfied costumers against these establishments. This has caused lots of money and even reducing their business’ integrity.

The bed bugs found on hotels are the same with the bed bugs at home. These pests are small brownish and rounded insects that look like a tick. They are unforgiving and can attack any place as long it suits their requirements. Usually bed bugs are looking for a warm, dark place and food sources are available for them.

What makes bed bugs thrive through the generations is their ability to live without feeding. They can wait on their lair for a year until the right moment for feeding comes. Their size is also a big factor for them to easily escape from danger. When bed bugs feed, the victims don’t feel their bites. They use an elongated beak to pierce the skin of their target.

Once they’ve bitten, they release an anesthesia-like chemical that makes their act unnoticed. However, the bed bugs leave a sign for the victim to know he has been bitten. The skin will appear reddened and swell the following day.

The bed bug infestations in hotels have been a big problem for the management. It taints their status and leaves negative feedbacks about them. But what is more inexcusable is their poor manner of handling complains especially with bed bugs.

In not just one occasion, the staff failed to address the concerns of the patrons. It seems that they just ignore the incident. Their poor service has resulted to lawsuits filed by their disappointed patrons.

In one of the cases, the costumer sued the hotel for damages caused by the heavy bed bug infestations in the hotel. The arguments said that the hotel management failed to disclose their bed bug problem to costumers thus risking the health and welfare of the disgruntled patrons. In the end, the hotel was found guilty.

That makes the bed bug problem a huge issue for hotel management. Although it is true that bed bugs are everywhere, what annoys costumers is the hotel management’s inability to resolve the bed bug problems.

In the first place, it is their responsibility to give customers excellent services and clean suites that they deserve. And definitely bed bugs are not what patrons have come for.

If indeed a hotel has a huge bed bug infestation problem, maybe they need to avail the services of reputable pest control agencies that can help them with their problem.

Travelers and patrons need to be more cautious whenever going to hotels. It would be best to have n anti-itch cream available. They can even ask how the hotel is cleaned before checking-in. For more information about the hotel, they can look into the internet for reviews and feedbacks.

It’s best to look into some of the patrons testimonials about their hotel experience. This can help in choosing which hotel to check-in. Costumers always have the right to know what’s happening inside the hotel. Any misinformation given can lead to the establishment’s closure.
