Anti-fog spray is composed of reagents or chemicals that checks water droplets from condensing on lenses of goggles and masks thereby fogging them. Anti-fogging treatments were first used by NASA personnel in 1966. Today it is widely used on any plastic or glass surfaces of lenses or mirrors not only in goggles and eyeglasses but also on binoculars and cameras.
The action of anti-fog agents is to lessen surface tension making water stay together as a single film rather than scatter into miniscule droplets, a condition called wetting. Applying a surfactant (lessens surface tension of water) film or making the surface hydrophilic (maximizes the surface energy) creates this effect.
Anti-fog spray is used on many everyday things, anything that fogs up can be defogged with the treatment. It's very cumbersome to have to wipe off the fog when you are in the middle of wearing head gear or a diving mask. Plus, it produces poor photographs if your camera lens is fogged up. What about when you are driving and the windshield and windows throughout fog up causing zero visibility. This becomes convenient and it's applied before use.
The following substances have the same action as preventing mists: shaving cream spread over and wiped down without rinsing; detergents, soap, or shampoo included a solution can also be applied the same manner.
Anti-fog agents are utilized on airplane windows & windshields, sprayed on before you take off the windows remain clear during the flight. Racers can also use these for their race cars. It is very crucial that the windshield doesnt mist up throughout a race or rally where precision is required and time is not wasted on wiping the windshield. During a race, the driver needs to see everything since he needs precision in the track. Having clear window means one less factor to worry about. You cant make stops in the expressway just to clean your misty windows even when you are just a regular motorist. When you are in a hurry to go to your workplace, you dont have enough time to attend to a foggy windshield.
Anti-fog spray acts just like a detergent to clean a dirty window; it cuts down on static thereby preventing dust to cling to the glass; it has no silicon or toxins & harsh chemicals that may harm the environment; etc.
Anti-fog treatments are also made in other forms for example creams, gels, & wet wipes.
