Technical specifications: are they important or not?

It is interesting that when we start thinking to buy a new gadget we always start focusing on the technical specifications. It does not matter if the new gadget is a car, a computer or an internet tablet. We are interested in the engine (real combustion engine or processor) the capacity (gallons in the tank or GB in the hard disk) and the performance (miles per hour or speed).

Of course all these details allow to have a nice conversation with our friends, and sometimes a less "interesting" conversation with our partners that most of the time focus on the fact that what we want is "unnecessary" if we have polite partners or "useless/waste of money" if our partner is a straight talker…

Philosophy of an internet tablet user

I quite like to analyze my life in perspective and something I learned very painfully is that money comes and goes but time only goes.

The sad bit: time is running

Time is the only valuable thing that we have in a finite amount (X number of years) and we never know the exact amount till the end (when it probably does not matter anymore).

Then what we do with our time is the most important thing. Are we always fulfilled? Do we always have the certainty that we have used our time 100%, that we have done the best use of our minutes and seconds?

The answer is probably no (at least for me). In my life there are many hours that pass by while I am going from one place to another, many hours wasted waiting for other things to happen (meeting with important people, bus to arrive, train to appear…).

The very happy bit: most of your downtime can come back in your control!

You might be bored at this point but now is where the excitement and happiness start playing and having an exponential growth.

Step 1: I am in control of my time

When I started claiming back the "wasted time"…the time I was wasting waiting for things out of my control to happen I started reading book, listening music/podcast, writing blogposts, reading and sending emails and many more activities that required pen, paper, MP3 player, mobile phone/computer…in summary quite a lot to carry.

The reality of life was also different from my ideal dream, MP3 running out of power… paper with the last article lost… almost impossible to read the email (..an the attachments..) on my mobile phone and so on…

Step 2: a single device helps me to be in control of my time

The internet tablets have changed my life! A single gadget/device has everything I need on the move + has a friendly interface that make the interaction enjoyable.

It does not matter what you want to do during commuting, waiting, meeting (I am sure you do have boring meeting…I cannot be the only one on earth) you can do it with any of the interet tablets on the market.

Check the iPad and the Archos 101.

Think about the time you are now wasting and losing forever and decide to have it back!

...What about technical specifications?...Now you can start talking about them again...

For your partner: you are not buying a gadget but a life enhancer!!
