PC Computer Repair Tips to Speed Up Your System
There's nothing quite like the thrill of a new computer. It doesn't matter how fast it moves, it's almost always faster than whatever you had before. Sadly, the excitement of having a new computer will fade quickly and, after time, it'll begin to slow down. It doesn't matter if you have a little bit of pc computer repair skills or opt to hire one of the many home computer repair services. You'll need to do something to get your computer running at maximum capacity again. Here are some things you can do.
Check Your Start-up Programs
Does it seem like your computer is taking ages to boot up in the morning? This may be because there are too many programs attempting to start at the same time. When you install a new program, you will be asked two questions – if you want an icon on your desktop and if you want the program to turn on automatically on start-up. There's really no reason to start a program unless you're going to use it, so opt not to have your software start automatically. Ask your PC computer repair technician to help you check your current start-up settings so that you can turn off anything that may be causing problems.
Run Disk Cleanup
Disk Cleanup is an incredible tool that is usually automatically installed with any Windows operating system. Running Disk Cleanup will help to clear temporary files you may have downloaded during web browsing sessions, empty your computer's trash can or recycle bin, delete programs you don't use, and much more. Temporary internet files tend to be a huge culprit when it comes to slow computer speeds as they take up a ton of space you could be using for other purposes.
Delete Spyware Applications
There's no doubt about it – spyware is often undetected and can take up quite a bit of space on your computer. Spyware works to gather your personal details, from information about the sites you are visiting to your user IDs and passwords, and is often installed unknowingly when you visit certain websites or download files from unfamiliar parties. Spyware can be detected by some security suites but if you aren't sure you should ask your PC computer repair technician for help searching for and uninstalling these dangerous programs.
Add Extra Memory
Your computer's memory, aka RAM, may be getting full. Think about it – you eat a great meal and feel sluggish and slow until you are able to digest your food. Your computer feels the same way, only it can't get rid of the information you're feeding it. You'll either need to delete some files to free up extra space or you'll need to simply add some extra memory. All you have to do is check your computer's properties to see what type of memory it takes and order it online or in a local computer store. Memory is relatively inexpensive so you should have no problem making this type of upgrade.
Reinstall Your Operating System
Are you feeling like you're totally out of options? Reinstalling your operating system may do the trick by ridding you of all of the programs and files you've been bombarding your hard drive with for the past several years. Locate the discs that came with your computer or, if you feel like upgrading, purchase a newer version. Make sure you make a backup of your personal information and files before you attempt this type of change.
You're not comfortable making changes to your computer? You're certainly not alone in that regard, either. Consider calling one of the home computer repair services in your area. They'll come right to your house and have your computer running smoothly again in no time flat.
