Anyone who owns a computer today and uses the Internet knows something about Web Browsers. This is the program you use to access the Internet and visit the various sites on it. If your computer is one that has a Windows operating system, you have Internet Explorer automatically installed on your computer to be used as your browser. This is no longer automatically set as the default browser so you can choose a different one to download if you are not satisfied with Explorer. Most of the Web Browsers you can download online are free, which makes them popular to try. The most popular browser after Explorer is Firefox. This was one of the first browsers available to use as an alternative to using Explorer and came with all the same features people were accustomed to using. A browser will include some type of toolbar that sits on the top of the screen.

The toolbar has various icons and menus you can choose to help make navigating the Internet easier. Most Web Browsers today have the ability to remember the sites you frequent most often so they can bring them up with just one or two letters entered in the field. Some other features you may see in a web browser program can include username and password storage, security options and data for updating plug-ins and other programs used by the browser. Most of the settings found in a browser can be controlled by you. You should be able to access any of the tools and programs the browser uses to make the type of changes you want. Another feature often emphasized by various browser companies, is the speed and performance of their particular browser. Some newer features you can find on browsers available today include detection of spyware and malware as well as phishing. These browsers will alert you with a security message when you enter a site that could pose a threat to your computer system.

Bad Connections

Often people will change from one browser to another because they are getting slow connections or dropped connections with the Internet. While it is true that some Web Browsers can perform better than others, there are also a lot of variables that can contribute to having a slow or bad Internet connection, besides being the browser you are using. You may also see some browsers limited to the type of operating system, or computer they can be used with. Google Chrome is one that is available for free and can work with a PC, Mac or Linux program.
