I knew life was just starting or coming to an end when I got this small bald spot right in the center of my head. For a guy with curly hair, any bald spot was no good. That bald spot created the line" I'm 5 foot 5 but 6 foot 2 with my afro when I had hair" which brought some laughter but no hair. In reality, I never would have been 6 foot 2 with an afro. When I was a kid, I completely refused to comb out or brush my hair. After about 4 weeks of growth, my mother would comb it out. She would take the extra time to tell me how nappy it was. I definitely knew how the dog felt when her hair was knotted.

Back to the bald spot. At first, I attributed the baldness to rubbing my head when I was younger. It was part of the thinking process and this made me smarter. After looking at times and dates of initial baldness, it all started when we had our first child. Our son was truly a blessing and a joy. He gets most of his bad habits from his mother and 1 or 2 from Dad. Most of his good points he also gets from his Mom. I sneak in one.

When our son was born, he always wanted something. He either wanted something to eat or he wanted something else to eat. Instead of just saying "Mom..Dad can you get me a snack.", He just started crying and crying until he got fed. It seemed like he cried around the clock. The bottom line is he did cry around the clock. This introduced the baldness.

He was our first child so everything was new for us. My wife, to me, was the most creative mother on the planet. To get him to go to sleep she would take him for car rides at first. This was great as the motion of the car put him right to sleep. Then, the car would stop and the loud, wailing, crying sound would start up again. Plan B was almost as good as plan A AKA the vacuum cleaner plan. If we ran the vacuum cleaner, he would go right to sleep. When the power of the vacuum went off, he wakes up once again. The best plan ended up being the baby swing. The first one we bought was definitely reasonably priced. It was a wind up. Same old story on a different gadget. When the swing stopped swinging, he was up. This was solved by the battery powered swing. Because of this swing, we all slept for four hours at a time.

This is the beginning of the baldness. Stay tuned.
