Your home is your private space. Whether you live in a cramped apartment or in a sprawling mansion, your home is your personal sanctuary. It's the place you go to at the end of the day to relax tired muscles and rejuvenate frayed nerves. Pressures from work, failures in business and challenges in school all seem worlds away as soon as you enter the front door to the warmth of a welcoming home.
Family turns a house into a home. Your wife, husband, daughter, son or cat even, makes it a place worth coming home to at the end of the day. However, there are times when families need to take a break in order to strengthen old bonds. Vacations and special occasions are usually the best times to get together and fortify filial relationships.
In a similar vein, our homes need to get revitalized at some point for it to continue to exude warmth and love for those who live in it. When we as homeowners feel that the energy of a particular space in a home has been used up or is already in a constant state of dissipation, it's time to renovate home sweet home. Here are some ideas and tips to take some of the stress off the whole process:
*Know your budget first. This is the first major step. How much you're willing to spend to remodel the living room or the kitchen has to be put down in writing, otherwise, you're going to end up spending a lot more than what you originally planned to. If you're not clear about how much you're willing to spend for renovation, you might end up realizing that the amount you spent could have been used to get a better place.
*Look for ideas in home magazines or interior design websites. If you can afford it, you can hire an interior designer to help you out. If you're on a tight budget, enlist the help of the whole family and make simple home renovation a family bonding affair. It's best to draw or sketch how you'd like your room to look like in the end so you have a tangible thing to work towards and not just a mere abstract idea in your head.
*One of the best and easiest places to start renovating is the kitchen. You can give a tired kitchen a refreshed look by simply repainting the cabinets or changing the tiles in the counter.
*Simply buying new furniture, replacing worn-out carpets or repainting the walls can do wonders in the living room. Make sure to measure furniture before you buy them to ensure that they fit the space you have.
*Don't underestimate the power of lighting and mirrors. Combining warm white lights with yellow lights or using it against a painted wall can exude warmth and welcome in a room. Small rooms can be given the illusion of wide space through the strategic location of mirrors.
*Plants can give a room a burst of life. Use them.
