There are many garden sheds sold at national chain stores like Lowe's and Sears that can be put up in no time in your back yard. These pre-built sheds come in different sizes and are made of various materials from metal to wood and some mixtures of the two building materials. Sheds are an invaluable addition to your housekeeping storage needs. Basically, the garden shed and the garage have, since the advent of the ranch house with its attached garage, joined usage for many households.

The fact of the matter is your lawn mower and attachments, your gardening tools and hoses and other supplies like grass weed and feed fertilizers and insecticides should be located safely in your shed and should not share quarters with your car. The clutter in many garages because of the dual purpose of the garage leads to accidents and ruffled tempers between the members of the household who have to use the garage to actually park their car and might have to leave their car outdoors even in the winter to make room for the lawn mower and gardening tools.

To buy a shed is to make a wise investment in managing your household from the outside in. Benjamin Franklin probably coined the phrase, "A place for everything, and everything in its place." Although he might not have been talking about why one should buy garden sheds, he might have been alluding to the use of barns and sheds that have always been a part of the American scene whether in New England or further west into Pennsylvania. Travelling through various states gives one a chance to admire the delicately kept homes and always with their barn or large sheds.

Building your own shed might mean finding a plan, lumber, nails, and a hammer or you can just buy a shed, pre-built and guaranteed to last as long as you need it. There might be other reasons to buy a garden shed, but returning your garage to your car and its accessories might be all the reason you need to make an investment in a garden shed. Clutter and safety are two driving principles in managing the work place and since the items in your shed would fall under the category of work place items for managing your grounds, they deserve their own space much as your kitchen items would be out of place in your glass enclosed patio.
