Online 2010 holiday sales and activities are forecast to grow by a robust 15 percent compared to 2009, according to the research and consulting firm Deloitte. This is good news for retailers and the economy. While family members sit down at their computers to place online orders for toys, skis, clothes and all manner of gifts, they'll also be reconnecting with loved ones.
According to a Pew Internet Project study of online activities during the holidays, 53 percent of Internet users sent greetings through e-mail, 32 percent sent e-greeting cards, 24 percent gathered information about holiday celebrations, and 14 percent researched religious traditions. Many users are also trying to save time and money to purchase gifts and cut down on travel costs. With all the accessibility and ease of use the Internet provides it comes with a price, managing all your online usernames and passwords.
Eric Ungs of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, relies heavily on e-mail and social media websites to connect with out-of-town friends and family members during the holiday season. "I currently have about 50 sites, each with their own username and password, and this number increases each year as the Web continues to change in terms of providing, or enhancing, a cloud based system for users," he said. "I use Skype and instant messaging services to chat with friends and family, but I'm also using new communication tools for monitoring, listening, creating content and sharing purposes, adding to the number of passwords I use."
One way to cope with the growing Internet activities and multiple usernames and passwords is with a password manager program such as Password Genie, http://www.mypasswordgenie.com . Password managers offer a quick, reliable, and secure way to recall passwords. Whether you have 2 or 20 passwords to remember, it's much safer and convenient to use software than to rely on your memory, a sticky note or a document to recall this information. According to a study conducted by SecurityCoverage, Inc., most users average 10 different passwords and nearly 45 percent store the passwords on a piece of paper.
"Surprisingly, the number one way consumers manage their usernames and passwords is by storing them in a document or spreadsheet on the computer," said Robert O'Dell, CEO and President of SecurityCoverage, Inc. "When asked, most found managing all their online identities to be a major hassle, yet only five percent of those surveyed use a password manager program."
Password Genie, SecurityCoverage's password management program, offers little risk to the user, but saves users from a lot of risk online. After a simple software download, Password Genie manages all your website usernames and passwords so you never have to write them down or remember them again. Simple to use and easy to understand, Password Genie performs all password-connected operations quickly and easily. Your online logins will always be secure, backed up, and readily available for your use. Password Genie even offers a free 30-day trial, so you have nothing to lose by visiting http://www.mypasswordgenie.com .
Whether you're shopping online, searching for gift ideas, paying a bill or chatting with a loved one, a password manager subscription like Password Genie is the gift that keeps on giving.
