Kitchen Cooker Hoods - Advice before Installation

Before you wander down to your preferred kitchen specialty appliance retailer to purchase a new cooker hood (also widely known as a range hood) for your kitchen, you will need to ensure the product will be the appropriate size and design suitable for your kitchen.
This is important because if a new cooking island is being installed or new hobs and cabinetry fitted into a renovated kitchen, then the overall diameter of that cooking space will need to be established as this will determine the diameter of your canopy cooker hood that can generally be acquired in sizes from 50cm up to 90cm. By having the proper size canopy it will ensure any fumes and other pollutants generated from the cooking process are efficiently extracted from the kitchen.
Large Style Kitchens
Another important consideration is the overall size of your kitchen. If you have a large kitchen then depending on your budget, you will most likely have room to hang an eye-catching chimney style canopy either over a cooking island or over hobs installed next to a kitchen wall. Either design mentioned can accommodate a ducted extraction system in the kitchen, although a re-circulation system that works by drawing polluted air into and through a filter to be purified and then re-circulated back into the kitchen is also an option.
Smaller Kitchens
In smaller designed kitchens where cupboard space is at a premium, installing a canopy cooker hood behind a cupboard above cooking hobs is a popular option with many homeowners. This type of canopy is generally a re-circulating filter style product which can be discreetly installed behind a cupboard to give the kitchen cupboards a nice streamlined look while providing an effective means of extracting pollutants from the kitchen.
Installation Considerations
Apart from the cost of buying an efficient range hood you will also need to take into account the overall installation cost. Installing kitchen cabinetry, appliances and other equipment requires an element of expertise so a specialist kitchen tradesman and the services of an electrician will in most cases be necessary. Installing a ducted system through the roof of a home may also be required and can be expensive although a lot will depend on how long the ducting needs to stretch to the extraction point outside the home.
