When you have your own website, there are a few things you should be aware of in order to get the most out of it and be successful. If you do not have people visiting your website, it is a waste of time having it.
The world is now a much smaller place as a result of the Internet and therefore every opportunity should be taken in order to promote businesses in a global way by using the Internet to the best advantage.
When people use the Internet, they search using relevant keywords by using search engines such as Google, Bing, Yahoo, etc. When you use Google, for example, and type a particular combination of words into the search box, on the initial results page you are shown the number of pages that this particular combination of words has revealed. Often, it amounts to several thousand results. Some may wonder why certain websites have been placed on the first page of the search results, whilst others are on the following pages. There is a strategy behind all of this which is called search engine optimisation (SEO).
What is SEO? Search engine optimisation is an Internet marketing strategy aimed at improving and augmenting the visibility of websites in search engines by using organic or algorithmic methodology for achieving results and page rank. SEO concentrates upon different kinds of searches, such as local searches, industrial searches, image searches, etc. Search engine optimisation will ultimately establish your company’s presence on the web.
Search engine optimisation is the system whereby analysis takes places of what web visitors are looking for and how search engines fulfil that search. Once in place, it will optimise a website by means of editing the content, in addition to the html and other coding so that there is an increased relevance of the related keywords so that indexing can take place. Organic SEO also plays a part when backlinks are in place that point back to a certain website. This is off page SEO. The more backlinks you have pointing at your site, the higher rank you will have with the search engines.
What is white hat SEO? This is an organic method that follows the guidelines of search engines to ensure no dishonesty. The content that site visitors will view will be the same that the search engine will encounter. This type of SEO focuses on user friendly pages, rather than page content that is specifically targeted to search engines. Nonetheless, however user friendly the pages of a site, they also have to be easily digested by search engine spiders.
What is black hat SEO? It is basically trickery to develop search engine ranking by engaging in practices that are frowned upon by search engines. It can involve keyword stuffing, for example, which is the deliberate placement of keywords on a page, even if they are inappropriate, in order to make the page more attractive to search engines. However, most modern search engines have the ability to spot this.
Good website designers will undertake on page SEO on behalf of their clients. By doing so, they will help to enhance the web presence of the website they are creating, bringing traffic to it and helping it to maintain a good ranking. This should hopefully turn site visitors into clients. It also adds value to the services that the designer is providing. A good web designer will understand how the algorithm system works and in doing so should be able to boost the search engine positioning of any site they build. Other factors they will be able to take care of includes the way in which the website is structured and ensuring that the internal links of the site work well. This is all taken into account by search engine spiders.
