How to clean kitchen counters

Kitchen counters is a highly visible place in your kitchen, it is used for your food preparation.

You need to wash the counter throughout with Dishwashing liquid and cloth or sponge after each time you handle food on a counter. Then rinse the counter with hot water and wipe down with paper towels.

Extra attention need to be paid after you handle raw meat or fish. Wash the surface to remove debris, apply mixture of bleach and hot water on the counter, sit for at least 5 minutes. Then rinse thoroughly with hot water and dry off. Read chemical safety instructions carefully before you start, a pair of chemical resistance glove should be used to protect your skin from toxic solutions.

Different types of counters' surface require different treatments. Plastic laminated counter is a cost-effective option, it is widely used today. For polished or laminated surface, avoid using metal scrub pad that would scratch surface. You can clean with a soapy sponge and general purpose cleaner, do not use abrasive cleaner that may damage your counter. To remove stains, such as juice, coffee, using baking soda on a soft cloth, wipe down gently. Then rinse it off with clear water.

Some counters are nonporous and matte finished, most of them are stain-resistant, so they are very easy to clean, you can wipe up stains and burn marks with powdered cleaners. Because Corian is made of acrylic and natural materials, it is solid rather than a thin layer, you can use plastic scrub pad to rub our burns.

Notes:

Burn marks or laminated or polished surfaces are permanent. If the burn mark is especially noticeable, consider having the affected section replaced with a section of glass.

Never place hot pans directly on counter surfaces. Harsh acidic cleaners such as oven, toilet, and drain cleaners should not be used on counters.
