Things to See While Biking On the Ann Maria Island

While biking on Florida’s Anna Maria Island, there are plenty of places to see and things to do. The site seeing options are endless along this beautiful coastal area. The white sandy beaches, that are pristine and a sight to behold in and of themselves. You’ll never want to leave. Relaxing and inviting, the beaches will call to you while you’re riding your bike. You may want to stop and relax for a bit before moving on to the rest of the area. Pack a lunch and spread out to enjoy the warm sun. However, when you are ready to get moving again there will be plenty to do and see. Look out over the gulf or the bay for dolphins dancing in the aqua blue water. Pull up to one of the canals and look for friendly manatees. Pass over any of the small hump back bridges and watch the fisherman fish.

There are gift shops, restaurants, ice cream shops, music and cafes to enjoy. Ride up and down and take it all in. Enjoy the Two Sides of Nature for all your shopping needs or stop into one of the many restaurants for fresh sea food. There are handmade items you’ll find in one of the eclectic shops and as you peruse through the shops you can chat with the locals. Plus, don't miss the gorgeous homes. Many of the homes still have their old Florida charm while many others take the colors and the architecture of some of the famous architects that have lived on the Island. Don't miss out on the Sand Bar restaurant either. A local favorite and located on the north end of the island, you can enjoy the sunset over the Gulf of Mexico inside from inside restaurant or out on the amazing deck area. You may even catch a wedding in progress or reception party. It is a hot spot for these types of events.

If additional shopping is what you’re looking for then be sure to check out such favorites as the Bay View Plaza located on the north end of Anna Maria Island. There is also Ginny's & Jane E's located at the Old IGA and here you will find everything from furniture to jewelry to unique and interesting gifts to pick up. There is also the Pine Avenue General Store where fresh produce and many other items can be found. Renting a bike on Anna Maria Island is the perfect way to get around so you don’t miss a thing.

Stop by the Anna Maria City Jail, a favorite attraction and one that has been standing since 1927. The city jail was made of thick blocks and had sinks, toilets and a septic tank. The jail was built when there was "high crime" at the time. However, by the Depression there was no longer a need for it and in 1940's there was a fire that all but destroyed it. A piece of Anna Maria Island history you don’t want to miss.
