Web conferencing is a software used in many companies as a way to communicate with clients, providers and their own employees that sometimes, work in branches abroad. Doing business was never so easy and fast as with this new technology. However there are some people that do not accept the use of a web conferencing application for their company. They like to do business the old fashion way.
1- Face to face
The old tradition way says that businesses should take place face to face, in person. There still are some old school businessmen that keep the tradition and refuse to close businesses over the phone or through the internet. They are afraid that, without an eye to eye contact some attitudes might be misunderstood and a deal might not be closed because of that.
2 - Technology
Some people, especially the old school of businessmen, see technology as something that cannot replace the physical effort and the hard work of travelling to attend a meeting abroad, or to skip lunch to have a meeting with a client. They do not trust technology, and they refuse to use it in their companies. Sometimes, although they want to try it in their companies, they are afraid that their clients don't understand the concept and do not accept to do business with them.
3 - Knowledge
Some people are not used to working with computers and the use of a web conferencing software might sound like an impossible task. If a simple text application is difficult to understand, image an application where several people share files, desktop, applications and they even see each other through a webcam. While to some this sounds like an easy challenge, for others it is something they don't want to get near.
4 - Technical problems
People are still afraid that technical problems will ruin a web conferencing meeting and therefore the business is not done. Causing a bad impression during an online meeting can be a disaster and, although we all know that there is the possibility of something going wrong, software and computers are prepared to minimize those disastrous events.
5 - Security
For most companies and businessmen security is a strong argument to avoid the use of web conferencing software. Using the internet to communicate, share files, applications and important data is still considered a danger by a lot of people. Although computers are protected with firewalls and other applications that keep the computer safe from viruses, spyware and malware, there is still the stigma that once the computer is connected to the internet, it is not safe.
There is still a long path to walk to make people understand that new technology is here to help us and not to make things more difficult. Web conferencing is getting into everyone's houses and companies but for older generations it came to us too fast. Some older businessmen weren't able to update their minds as fast as technology developed. Web conferencing sure is a tool that everybody should use because it helps with building relationships and doing business.
