With so many types of flooring materials available it's no wonder that one not so common may be overlooked, but in its own right it may be one of the best, and that is rubber flooring!
In early years you would only find this type of flooring being used in commercial and industrial settings but that is no longer the case...
Flooring technology has come a long way over the last 10 years, and a new dimension of rubber flooring has been developed specifically for
residential use.
Textures and colors are "modern" and contemporary and available in sheet or tile form. Tiles are square, easy to install and come in several
different sizes. However, sheet form is more cumbersome, heavy and harder to handle than the tiles and will probably require the expertise
of a professional installer.
Like many flooring materials (and most tires), rubber is man-made(synthetic). Natural rubber will not have the durability needed for flooring (and tires) that synthetic rubbers will.
Synthetic rubbers are petroleum based, whereas natural rubber comes from the Para rubber tree and have a natural property called
Polyisoprene, which is a form of latex that is duplicated for synthetic rubber.
As a resilient flooring material, rubber flooring properties offer durability, resiliency and low maintenance, making it an ideal material for places like the utility room, bath, kitchen, children's room, mud room, garage or anywhere you would like a contemporary look.

When it comes to colors and textures there are many to choose from, something for everyone...
And consider this, the color of the rubber (there are many) is dyed throughout the thickness of the rubber so there is no color fading or wearing-off from foot traffic...
Raised or dimpled textures are wonderful features of rubber flooring because they also make the flooring slip-resistant.
To obtain a watery effect unique only to rubber, add a surface polish. For a warmer appearance add a matte finish that will expose the softness of the material.
Like any flooring, rubber requires regular cleaning, but is otherwise very low maintenance. Just follow the manufacturer's maintenance guide and you'll be in good shape.
Although it is not the cheapest option in flooring, it does provide a very long life and many attributes not found in other comparable
flooring materials...
If you want a unique type of flooring, Rubber may be the answer and is worth a look...
