When you are trying to determine what material vanities are made out of, answer is simple, but most people don’t seem to understand what materials bathroom vanities are made from which can be very frustrating at times. There are numerous myths about the type of materials that bathroom cabinetry is made from. This is the answer to that question. To name but a few, bathroom vanities are usually made from many different materials such as glass, laminate, medium density fiberboard, and solid hardwood. The following is some of the pros and cons of each.

Glass

Glass is usually considered to provide a very contemporary look that has limited cabinet space. It is also very easy to care for. Because they are visible to all who look, the open shelves that most glass vanities have for storage require a considerable amount of focus on organization. A glass vanity may be rather expensive but the cost is dependent on the vanity’s size. For a sophisticated look with clean lines, glass vanities are usually have some chrome on them.

Laminate

Laminate material is available in numerous texture and colors such as solid colors, marble, stone, and wood patterns. Laminate is easy to care for and very durable and is frequently used for commercial applications. It is also used in children’s rooms and post modern remodeling jobs.

Medium Density Fiberboard (MDF)

MDF is a composite wood product that is made from the waste from wood products that are glued together with pressure, heat, and resin. MDF is used in numerous applications as a result of it is uniform, smooth, and it won’t distort with a quality finish or paint. MDF can be used for bathroom cabinetry since it doesn’t shrink or swell and is completely with a change in the level of humidity. MDF has a minimum impact on the environment when compared to other types of lumber since it is made from waste wood products that would otherwise be placed in a landfill. For this reason it has enjoyed ever increasing popularity.

Solid Hardwood

Solid hardwood is much more expensive that other types of materials that are used for bathroom vanities. The solid hardwood material must be laminated together in order to match the color and the grain. In addition, in order to prevent distortion, it must be dried adequately. The primary reason for its higher cost is that there is a higher waste factor during the manufacturing process.
