Many times when a young couple gets married, they will purchase their first home. Normally, they will not purchase a large home, but, something that is comfortable for them at the time. However, after the years begin to pass, they find that the home they purchased is becoming too small for their growing family. They have the choice of either selling and purchasing a new, larger home or adding an addition on to their existing home. Based on a number of different factors, selling and moving may not be a viable choice. They would need to add an addition onto their existing home.
Adding on a room or two or maybe even an entire floor involves major work. The homeowner could seek a discount home improvement contractor to make it more affordable. It will take time and the amount of time is based on the work to be done. If a room addition is being done, it could be done in a relatively short period of time, about a month or two. If the roof is being removed and an entire second story is being added, the time frame for this work will be much longer, about six months or more.
When choosing to add an addition on to a home, the first step would be to find the right contractor. In Northern Virginia, choose a reliable discount remodeling contractor that can handle the job. Have an exact idea of what changes or additions will need to be done and discuss this with the contractor. When meeting with the contractor, make sure that specific ideas are discussed. Get references from them and check them out and look at any work they have done in the area.
After meeting with and agreeing on a price with the contractor, the next step would be to get the proper permits for the construction from the township the home is located in. Many times, the contractor will do this work as a part of the contract that was signed. If not, apply at the township and have the inspector come down to look at the job. They will also do periodic inspections of the work as it proceeds.
When the actual construction begins, the contractor should check in on a regular basis on where they stand in the work progression. A good contractor will take their client through the process with ease and the client will have very little involvement other than color and product choices.
With the right discount remodeling contractor and following the simple steps provided, the Northern Virginia home additions being planned will prove to be a simple process.
