No matter if we approve that or not, the social networks, especially Facesbook, are overtaking all spheres of social life. Facebook became public service No 1, connects you with people you know, you knew in some period of your life or with people you don’t know, but also provides information about many current events in your surroundings and worldwide. Companies, organisations, markets, pop stars, even schools and kindergartens, choose Facebook as a way to advertise them selves. It seems that television and printed media no longer have the necessary power of influence, so this social network has definitely taken the epithet of a best device for self-promotion.
Besides all the benefits that this network gives to its costumers, the public often speaks about the negative sides of this phenomenon. And while some are retaining to the information that people are spending their precious time, observing the life of someone else, some emphasize the existence of some kind of "rpg games" on the network. People are often representing themselves as someone else to achieve different aims, but for the most time, with a purpose to enter anonymously in one’s life and to examine him closely, checking out about his life and his habits. End if some group of people does this, if could be said, innocent and without any further plans, another group is extremely dangerous and has criminal plans like murders, kidnapping, robberies, and the potential victims are most often children.
These days, if you were not informed previously, you were probably asking your self why suddenly you can’t recognize any of your friends on their profile pictures. You have Tinker Bell, Snow-white or Mickey Mouse as a friend, or maybe the Smurfs…, users are changing their profile pictures to images of their favourite childhood cartoon characters. Firstly this was an initiative of the Facebook users in Greece and Cyprus. They suggested changing profile picture with cartoon character, so that no human face remains as a profile picture, from the 16th to the 20th of November. Further this appeal was got a new charitable interest, it’s a call for action. The switch to cartoon characters actually is a part of an effort to combat child abuse. The main purpose of this appeal is to fight against Violence to Children and the idea is everyone to have a cartoon character as a profile picture till the 7th of December.
Maybe it seems that this is not such a big thing but the fact is that every little step that could remind us that we should protect the most vulnerable group of people, is very important.
