Retirement is a time for celebration. It is the start of a new chapter in someone’s life, but it’s also time to recognize their service and dedication. Military retirement gifts provide the recipient with a memento of their service and sacrifice. When choosing such a gift, there are few things to keep in mind. Consider the following:
Most soon-to-be military retirees have a multitude of mixed feelings about their upcoming retirement date. Their years of military service have defined a large portion of who they really are. Retirement can often be bittersweet. Some may not want to retire, while others can’t wait. If you know which category your loved one falls within, it can make it much easier to choose appropriate military gifts.
Here’s an example. For someone who is rather disappointed to be leaving the military, a traditional gift may be best. Plaques highlighting their military branch, division, or specialized unit are available in a variety of shapes and sizes. You can add an emblem or insignia of their highest rank, along with the dates of their military service. These personalized plaques are a beautiful way to thank a retiring military member for all that they have done through their career.
You also may want to consider shadowboxes or display cases, engraved desk sets, or a beautiful throw blanket with and emblem of the branch of the military he or she is retiring from. These are the types of military retirement gifts that the recipient can proudly display in their home or next office.
For someone who is ready to spend the next several years doing something other than reporting for duty, you may want to consider a little less traditional gift. Perhaps an embroidered hat with their unit or branch for those days they will spend relaxing. A T-shirt with the military emblem or specialized unit is a good idea, as is an embroidered jacket. Beautifully engraved bar sets, a military ring, or a personalized belt buckle with an emblem special to the recipient are all fantastic military retirement gifts. You don’t have to feel as though you must get a gift that has to hung or displayed on a home or office wall. You can find a gift that exemplifies their service, sacrifice, and dedication without proclaiming it to the world.
However, you’ll find on a handful of military personnel that won’t be very receptive of an upcoming retiring party. They’ve worked very hard in every aspect of their career. They have spent years defending this country. It’s time they were recognized for that service. While some may feel it was their duty to serve, you want them to understand that you know of their sacrifices. You want to express your gratitude. The right choice of military retirement gifts helps you do so in great style.
In closing, there are a number of different gift ideas for someone who is retiring. Take a bit of time to think about their person behind the uniform. Perhaps the perfect military retirement gift is easier to find that you might think!
