FRP Grating: Options, Uses, and Benefits of Fiberglass Reinforced Plastic Grating

Fiberglass Reinforced Plastic (FRP) Grating has many uses in the industrial world. If you are familiar with FRP Grating, then you will know that it is a combination of resin and fiberglass, and used for mostly industrial structures, such as walkways, fire escapes, platforms, raised floors, and protective shielding. There are many benefits of using this type of material, but the most important being that it is an excellent alternative to metal grating where rust, corrosion, or chemical attack are issues.
FRP Grating is also beneficial because it is more cost-effective than steel in certain environments requiring extended product life cycle. In addition, FRP grating manufacturers will allow the customer to choose resin options for specific applications, which can be more economical, depending on how and where the FRP grating will be utilized. The resin systems available include Orthophthalic Polyester (for general purpose), Isophthalic Polyester (or ISO), Vinyl Ester, Fire Retardant, USDA certified, all have UV Resistance. Each are designed to fit the specific needs and conditions of where the grating will be used, and how it will be used.
FRP grating can be produced in many colors and styles. There are standard colors such as grey, green, yellow, and orange, but custom colors can also be produced. Colors are permanently added to the resin formula to provide long service life.
Styles of molded FRP grating include various mesh patterns, thickness, and dimensional size, as well as types of non-slip surfaces. For non-slip surfaces, a gritted top is embedded in the resin layer for when skid resistance is a required factor. Embedding the resin layer ensures greater durability, as opposed to gluing on the gritted top. Color and style should be considered when taking into account safety hazards and where and how the FRP grating will be used.
Other benefits of using this type of material are that FRP grating is non-conductive, flame retardant, and has low thermal conductivity. These features provide the end users a higher level of safety benefits not available with other types of materials.
