With advances in technology, telephones have truly come a long way from traditional landlines which started with the first hand cranked wall telephones to digital telephony using Voice Over Internet Protocol (VoIP) services, also known as IP telephone or an online telephone service. Instead of using traditional landline technology, people can talk over the phone with LAN or WiFi internet connections. Since 2006, many companies have VoIP services for both homes and businesses due to the belief that VoIP is cheaper than other types of telephone services.
Reducing your telephone bills is one of the greatest motivations for switching to a VoIP phone. Although you can simply just use a headphone and microphone, this means that you will need to always be connected to computer. However, nowadays there are IP Phones (also known as softphones) which allows users to choose a phone that is either wired, and even wireless so you can move anywhere around the home, your garden, or office while you wait for that important phone call.
When you choose a VoIP phone, there are certain aspects you should consider just like with any other type of phone like a cell phone. This includes the cost of your VoIP, phone features, and more. Just like any other phone, there are price variations between manufacturers and models made.
Cost
Some VoIP companies do provide wireless phones, but the cost can be free during special sales. Otherwise, you are looking at a cost starting from around $14 ranging as up to as high as over $200. This depends on the quality as well as the model of the phone provided. For example, a Cisco VoIP phone is much more expensive than just a VoIP phone that is really basic.
Choosing the Phone
When you buy your wireless Internet telephone, make sure that you buy it from a trustworthy dealer with an excellent reputation. Also, go for well-known brands that you know of that sell good quality phones. Some well-known brands that make wireless Internet telephones include Logitech, Linksys, Cisco, and Netgear. Depending on what purpose you are using the telephone for, you may require additional features compared to a standard, basic phone. These features may include full color screens, type of connectivity to particular routers, how it charges (for example through a USB port), Skype-enabled phones, and more.
Where To Buy the Phone
You do not have to buy from the VoIP company itself as it is possible to get the same exact phone or equivalent from another retailer - either online or in a bricks and mortar store. If you already have an existing wireless telephone in your home or office, it may be possible to use this instead of buying a brand new VoIP telephone. Analog cordless phones should usually be 1.8GHz or more, up to 5.8Ghz. These include the Uniden 5.8 ghz Analog Cordless Phone, the GE 27923GE1, Uniden EWCI-936, Panasonic KX TC1731, AT&T EL42108, Telstra 6100 or 7100 (with either 1 or 2 DECT handsets), or the Vtech VT-IA5864.
Last but not least, don't forget to check out this ViaTalk review, ViaTalk is a great VoIP service provider.
