Mendoza city enjoys a warm climate, however temperatures have an important yearly oscillation and rain is scarce. Summer is hot and wet, is the rainiest season and average temperatures are above 25° C. Winter is cold and with little rain, with average temperatures below 8° C, occasional night frosts and little rainfall. Because of all this the city is a great city to walk through, and get to see incredible sites, historic monuments, commercial neighborhoods and cultural centers. There is no doubt that to totally enjoy all the possibilities Mendoza has to offer to the tourist, the most convenient alternative is to stay in a 4 star hotel in Mendoza uptown, close to the greatest attractions of Mendoza.
Uptown, it is possible to walk and get to the Plaza España, where a numberless flowers and sculpts greet the visitor, the Plaza San Martín, with the Basilica of San Francisco and the chamber of the Virgen del Carmen de Cuyo, where it is kept General San Martin’s command baton, and his daughter Merceditas remains are kept. After we can walk by the Avenida Las Heras, and we will arrive at the People’s Museum, with a wide range of typical products of the region. To end this small outing we can take a walk to Paseo Sarmiento, where Plaza Independencia is situated with its magnificent fountains and lights, the Museum of Modern Art, a playground, and craft fair.
As well as this walk it is possible to go to the Civic District and the adjoining Provincial Municipality of the capital of Mendoza, its viewpoint, the Gardens of the Palace of Justice, the Ecological Park and Customs. A few meters away from Government House, an incredible building. Also, you can visit the Cathedral of Loreto, the Plaza Sarmiento, the Municipal Aquarium, the Serpentarium, O'Higgins Park and the Gabriela Mistral Theater.
The capital of the Province of Mendoza offers many attractions to see like the Plaza del Castillo, which is exactly where the city was founded. There, just crossing the square, there is a museum, with important archaeological samples and the ruins of San Francisco, declared National Historical Monument. The Ruins of San Francisco used to be a Jesuitical order church that had been installed in Mendoza in 1608. The church had been constructed by the Jesuits in between 1716 and 1731 and was devastated in 1861 by an earthquake that devastated the city leaving Mendoza in ruins.
If you visit Mendoza, the wisest course of action to take is to get a room in a downtown 4 star hotel in Mendoza, where you will be close to the main attractions of this incredible and beautiful city.
