Here is one of the most frequently asked questions we get from our clients: Can I get a black out blind in my conservatory roof?
Strictly speaking the answer is yes! However this is certainly an unusual choice as when these blinds are drawn (which most blinds are for most of the year to improve thermal qualities of a conservatory) they create the feeling of a false ceiling. Now as a conservatory is generally considered to be a ‘light and airy’ place or room the concept of being closed in on one side (all be it the ceiling) is seldom the idea.
Now if you are going to be using your conservatory as an occasional guest sleeping room then the black out choice may be more of a requirement.
There are a couple of other points to beware of also with black out pleated blinds; they are quite thick for number one! Black out material is actually a laminate of plastic backing with a material facing. This makes them thicker and usually more expensive too. Also if and when the blind is drawn it results in a thicker bunch than most other fabrics, however this is a minor consideration usually.
The plastic back is normally grey but that is not an issue, as you don’t see this because it is in the roof! The reason this is important is because if you want to match the pleated material on the conservatory side blinds then you need to bear in mind that from the outside of the conservatory the blinds will not look good.
Obviously you can overcome this by choosing either Perfect Fit clip in roller or venetian blinds for the sides. There is quite a range of both available to choose from. However do bear in mind the ONLY type of Perfect Fit roof blind you can get is pleated.
