Since it is winter, you might be in the market for a new men's wool jacket. Wool makes a wonderful choice for a coat or jacket, and features classic and elegant good looks. Although a bit more expensive to purchase than other, flimsier fabrics, a brown or black wool coat will last for years and look stylish from season to season.
Wool is an excellent material for use in outerwear such as a black or brown wool coat or jacket. If you live in a very cold part of the country, you will discover one advantage of having a men's wool jacket right away, because wool is an excellent thermal insulator, and will do an excellent job of keeping you warm, much warmer than other types of thinner fabrics. Because sheeps' wool contains lanolin, a naturally occurring wax that sheep secrete from their skin into the wool, the new black or brown wool coat that you purchase will also help to keep you dry and free from moisture.
Coats and jackets are made out of wool for several reasons. One important reason is that wool flows and drapes nicely. This lends a more stylish air to your new brown or black wool coat, especially important if your outerwear garment is long, like a coat. Another reason why the fashion-conscience crowd chooses wool is because it comes in a variety of different weights. Lighter weight wools work very well in blazers or pants, for example. Heavier weight wool fabrics are perfectly suited to outerwear applications, such as jackets, long coats, vests and even hats.
One aspect of wool that you will want to consider before you make a purchase is its texture. Some people with delicate skin can find wool fabrics to be itchy. This is not a problem if your wool clothing is properly lined. Most quality coats and jackets come with linings attached, so that the wool does not come into direct contact with your skin, completely eliminating the problem. The lining also helps to make your winter coat or jacket warmer as well. Wool also must be dry cleaned rather than machine washed, because it will shrink if you throw it into your washing machine for cleaning.
For a coat or jacket that will wear well for many years, you will want to invest in a black or brown one. These colors look traditional yet modern, and can be worn with nearly any hue of clothing underneath.
