A heavy duty attic ladder isn't required for every homeowner who has an attic located in their home. Instead, they should only be installed in homes that have specific conditions. Families that have some heavier individuals should consider purchasing a ladder that is built tougher to withstand the little extra weight. Along with a higher weight capacity, heavy duty ladders should be purchased if the attic is a much frequented area in the home.
Every ladder should have a label that states how much weight it can support at a time. While standard ladders are typically efficient, they may not be enough support for heavier people. When there is a heavier person in a family who will be frequently using the steps to the attic, it is important that they are using one which can support their weight. Using one which cannot hold enough weight is dangerous and could cause the entire structure to fall while somebody is climbing it, causing serious injuries.
In some homes, the family uses their attics as an extra room, rather than a storage area like the typical person uses it. Everything from a bedroom, living room, or game room could be placed inside an attic without any complication. Since the attic will be visited much more if it used for any of these reasons, it should be taken into consideration when purchasing a ladder. A heavy duty ladder is ideal if the family is frequently climbing up and down. Many ladders cannot withstand lots of wear, so it is important that something different is purchased if the steps will be in use a lot.
Even if the attic is not frequently used, there is still one other compelling reason to purchase a heavy duty ladder rather than a traditional one. Standard ladders typically have a shorter lifespan than the more durable heavy duty ones. This is because it was built to withstand more wear and thus can be used more often than one that is only constructed to deal with minimal use.
When choosing which type of ladder to purchase for an attic, it is important to take into consideration how often it will be used and how much weight it will be able to support. Many families choose the standard because they believe the heavy duty design will not be needed. However, if a homeowner wants their ladder to be able to handle years of wear without any problems, heavy duty ladders could be the perfect fit.
