Styles Of Firescreens You Can Choose From
Firescreens serve two major purposes. The first one is to provide safety inside a house with a fireplace. This is because they are designed to keep hot ashes, sparks, and embers from flying out of the fireplace and into the room. If ever this happens, a fire may start up. If not, sparks and embers may cause or leave holes in carpets and other nearby furnishings. Secondly, firescreens also serve to provide a barrier that keeps small children and others far enough from the fire that’s produced by the fireplace in order to prevent injuries and other accidents from happening.
There are different styles of fireplace screens. In fact, these fireplace accessories come in a wide variety of styles. Fireplace screens are divided in three major categories. The first variety is made with a decorative standup style. The second one comes with a mesh curtain, which is installed on the fireplace itself and is pulled closed. The last variety is made with a standup folding style that is connected together by hinges on each panel.
Decorative models are made to cover up the empty fire box. These types are with many styles, which are produced using a variety of materials. They are often used as a decorative accessory and are not mainly intended to protect you from the flames of your fireplace. They are usually made from metals and earth materials including terra cotta, wood, and marble. Other types of these are crafted from synthetic materials while some are produced from etched and plain glass. Screening materials are also used to produce fireplace screens. Combinations of these different materials are sometimes used to produce a truly wonderful decorative piece that will help improve the aesthetic value of any fireplace.
The second variety, which are fine mesh curtains are designed to fit in a slot, which is a track on the fireplace. The mesh curtain is made using steel and it’s provided with small holes that allow air to penetrate. Even though air penetration is allowed, the holes on the mesh curtains are still small enough to prevent sparks and embers from escaping from the fire. The curtain can be opened and closed through a pull on a metal rope or a moving metal lever.
The third version, which is a standing folding screen is made from metal and screening which is designed to cover up the entire opening of a fireplace in order to provide sufficient protection from sparks and other burning materials. These fireplace screens are made with panels that range from 3 to 5 in number. They can easily be folded and straightened depending on how close you want them to the opening of your fireplace.
When you purchase screens for your fireplace at home, you need to consider some factors. If you’re planning on using the screens with a raging fire, you have to be sure that they’re made from the right materials and that they properly fit on your fireplace. On the other hand, if you just plan on using these fireplace accessories for decorative purposes, you have a greater amount of freedom to choose what style tickles your fancy.
Aside from providing aesthetic values and protection to a fireplace, screens are also intended to match other items used such as fireplace tools and log carriers. With this, you need to make sure that the materials will match or coordinate nicely together.
Regardless of what type of screen you use, try to have fun and enjoy looking at different options available.
