The 80’s era was filled with big hair and colorful clothing. Everyone just loved fashion. But that didn’t end there since a lot of accessories that joined in the bandwagon.

Men’s fashion in the 80’s were filled with leather and blacks, all looking totally like punks and their favorite metal bands while women loved their style in bright colors, walking during the daylight glowing like neon.

Although men and women had different preference in styles, they both had the same love for having tons of accessories. But I do agree that women won this round.

Some of the popular accessories of women are found in the hair. Some of these are:

Scrunchies – Gartered headbands popularly worn to match aerobic leotards. But it didn’t only serve that purpose, women also wear this to hold back big, frizzy, backcombed hair

Banana Clips and Pineapple Clips – These are cute hair accessories that came in varying designs and colors. Banana clips are obviously banana shaped combs that is used to make the hair stay neatly in place. It is best worn for women with long flowing hair.

Pineapple clips did the opposite of banana clips. If the latter makes your hair neat, the first one makes it messy but fun. Pineapple clips got its name not from its shape but from the form of the hair when you finally wear it. It is worn atop the head and makes the hair spread-down like the sprouting leaves of a pineapple.

Women not only wore a lot of accessories on their hair but on different parts of the body such as:

Fingerless gloves – The lacy and embroidered style were the most loved. Also, punk women loved their gloves to be leather and studded so that it would match their leather jackets, pants, and boots.

These leather gloves was worn best with Raybans.

Plastic bangles, rubber bracelets, and Swatches – All adorned the wrists. Ladies wore several at the time especially the colorful bangles. These accessories were paired with plastic dangling earrings.

Neon socks and leg warmers – Call the attention down to the feet and legs. Leg warmers were worn in almost any type of shoes. Wearing it with pumps was also a hit especially when one was wearing colored leggings. These leggings were mostly matched with puffball skirts.

Some of the abovementioned accessories made it back in today’s fashion like the leggings. Now it looked good when paired with sneakers, flat dress shoes, and stilettos. Other accessories were nearly forgotten but they could still be seen around. Take note that these accessories can still look great when paired with the right clothes.
