Whether you’re going travelling for a length of time, on your annual two week holiday or just away for the weekend, it’s always nice to bring a gift back to remind you of the place that you visited, or even as a present for someone you know.
Listed below are some gifts ideas that you can bring back from wherever it is across the world you are visiting.
Europe – Europe offers a plethora of countries and cultures, and there is ample opportunity to explore them cheaply and easily, but what to bring home? Just ensure it is something to remind you of your trip. France is synonymous with good food, particularly cheese, and fine wine; a bottle of Sherry, a sombrero or some maracas will remind you of Spain. Italians love art, so postcards or prints of famous works are ideal. From Holland you could bring back clogs, tulip bulbs or a miniature windmill.
America – Further afield to the U.S.A. A visit to New York is only complete when you take home an I HEART NEW YORK T Shirt. When visiting the theme parks of Florida and the West Coast there are ample opportunities to buy Disney themed gifts that babies and children will love. Some cities are famous for specific events or themes. For example Mardi gras beads from New Orleans or Elvis memorabilia from Memphis. All America love their baseball and basketball teams so souvenirs from the teams make ideal presents.
Australia – Anything Koala or Kangaroo related will see a child’s face light up. Delicious chocolate covered macadamia nuts are quintessentially Australian, and anything Great Barrier Reef themed will remind you of its beauty.
On that note it is worth mentioning that you take nothing from the National Park on the Great Barrier Reef or anywhere else. Reminders should only be bought in shops and never taken from ecological systems!
Always remember that if a place is famous for something in particular it is always nice to bring back a taster. For example many mining towns in Australia are famous for mining opals, so bringing back a small opal (earrings or necklace) will serve as a reminder of your trip and invest in an economy that relies upon selling such goods to survive.
Another idea is to bring back a souvenir brandishing the name of the place. For example, a tea towel reading: GREECE; a key ring with: I LOVE NEW YORK; or a fridge magnet pronouncing: J’ADORE PARIS.
Small children always love receiving presents, so some sweets or a doll dressed in traditional clothing are perfect. Baby gifts can be more difficult to buy overseas, but if you find a keepsake that baby will appreciate in years to come, such as an ornament or picture, it makes a nice gesture to buy it.
Remember, if you do forget to buy for someone there is always Duty Free on the way home if you are travelling abroad.
Most of all make sure you sample a taste of the culture of the place you are visiting to really experience the joys of travelling and take home with you something more than any gift – the experience. Travel safe and happy holidays.
