Today’s military has forces stationed around the world. While Iraq and Afghanistan are the two most common deployments today, there are other locations that require soldiers, marines, airman, and sailors, too. For those who want to show their gratitude, support, and compassion for those who serve overseas and away from their family and friends, deployment gifts are a great idea.
Highlight the Branch
Military members are quite loyal to the branch of service they are a part of. You’ve probably heard such sayings as, "Once a Marine, always a Marine." Deployment gifts that highlight the branch of service someone is in are a great choice. For example, T-shirts with popular slogans, hats with the branch crest or seal, or military rings that can be personalized to the individual are wonderful ideas. Your imagination is truly the limit when it comes to the right deployment gifts.
Highlight the Deployment
From Operation Enduring Freedom to Operation Iraq Freedom, deployments that show one’s participation in these operations will be well received. It’s a chance for the military member to show their pride and honor for being a part of these important military deployments. There are many gifts that can recognize this service, such as display cases full of medals, patches, and photos.
Highlight a Specialized Unit
Some military members are part of a specialized unit that deploys frequently to locations left unnamed. Navy Seals, Marine Recon, and Army Rangers are just a few. If your friend or family member is a part of such a specialized unit, consider giving a deployment gift that highlights this part of their lives. Customized dog tags or pendants, jackets or ties, or even sweatshirts and bandanas will show your friends and family members how much their service and sacrifice means to you.
Create a Family Heirloom
Many veterans who have served in past deployments appreciate gifts that honor their service. For example, Vietnam and the Korean War have been over for many years, but these military operations will never be forgotten. Consider giving a plaque or a desk set that is engraved to show that their service was important and is still remembered today. These items often take a spot of honor in a home or office. They are passed down to future generations so that no one will ever forget what these past military members did.
Jewelry Is Always a Great Gift
While many military members have military rings, a ring that is specifically designed for a deployment is a great gift idea. You may want to have it created and mailed directly to the serviceman or woman or you may choose to keep it your loved one returns home. There are hundreds of emblems, symbols, and insignia to choose from, so it’s almost guaranteed that no two rings will ever be the same.
In Closing
Deployment gifts show your support and gratitude for what these men and women do each day while deployed around the world. It’s not an easy life, but service men and women complete their jobs with honor and dignity. Anything that you can do to highlight this service is sure to be appreciated.
