When you think about creating a design for your kitchen and/or bath there are several things you want to consider. One of those is the look you want to create with a design in mind. Do you like traditional, modern, eclectic styles or something that is just you. Keep that in mind as your designs take the shape that you want them to. Another is topic for consideration is how much room there is to maneuver in this room for your design.
Both a kitchen and a bath are rooms that we like to have space to move around. For this reason if you have a small kitchen or bath that you want to design, it will be easier to think in terms of space saving. This doesn't mean that you need to skimp on the style you want for the bath; but simply go ahead and get that Victorian pedestal sink instead of the square, bulky, mahogany chest of a sink. The same thing goes for a small kitchen design or galley kitchen. Dark colors are a big no-no with smaller areas, they tend to make the walls and flooring close in on whoever might be in the area at the time. No island needed here, instead go for ceiling to floor cabinetry with glass doors on them. Draw your designs out on graph paper or a computer program. Once you have everything down things will move much quicker than standing in the center of the kitchen and trying to imagine what things will look like once they are done.
Conversely, a larger kitchen or bath area needs similar treatment for the area. The good thing is that with these larger rooms there is more play in the designs for them. Darker colors, bigger appliances and smaller tiles for the flooring are just a few of the things that are benefits of a larger area. Islands with stove tops built in can be considered for a larger area. Larger baths are more accepting of different patterns and scroll work designs than a smaller bath is.
Large or small, galley or head, you want the designs to fit the areas you are working with. Try playing with colors, patterns, appliances and lighting to get the look that you want. Consider these things when creating a design for the kitchen or bath that you can be proud of designing for yourself and that is sure to impress and guests that are coming to your home.
