Backpacking as well as tenting might appear to be spring, summer, and fall recreation. The weather is warmer, the woods are filled with life, and also you do not need to bring as many pieces of apparel. Even so, there are lots of advantages to backpacking and tenting in the wintertime.
First of all, you do not have to be concerned about bugs, pesky insects, and venomous snakes attacking you during the winter season. Also, the hiking trails are usually much easier to traverse. It is because all of the growth that has been covering them for the duration of the summer is now gone.
One should however, understand that wintertime recreation differs from summer and there will be more stuff you have to pack. On this page I am going to focus on a lot of the items you may want to consider bringing on your winter time hiking and camping trip.
To begin with, you will have to look into trading in your 3 season tents for 4 season tents. Four season tents are a lot warmer and can keep you from freezing through the night. Combine these types of extra warm tents along with a high quality sleeping sack and you will have no difficulty keeping warm as you sleep at night.
An additional item you'll want to get is something to heat up your drinking water with. Depending on how cool the weather becomes, you will probably find that a great deal of your water is icing up on you. Even though you might not feel as though you need the same amount of water during the winter, this could not be farther from the truth. You may wish to drink as much water in the winter as you do during the warm months.
Extra clothing is essential for just about any winter season backpacking trip. You are going to have to remain warm by using socks that are insulated, ski masks, scarves, and hand protection. Additionally make sure to bring a pair of sun glasses to prevent you from getting sun or snow blindness. An excellent set of waterproof boots or gaiters will go a long way in helping your feet stay warm during extended hikes.
Some other things to think about are lip balm and sun tan lotion. Becoming sun burnt is a lot worse in the winter compared to in the summertime. The main reason for this is that a harmful sun burn may damage your skin consequently making you a lot more susceptible to acquiring frost burn. Lip balm can help defend your lips against the harsh cold and wind.
Thank you so much for reading my post on wintertime backpacking and tenting. Be sure to check out 4 season tents and other warm gear and you should have a great deal of fun.
