A lot of people who aren't sure how to pick a good carpet end up just walking in and choosing the first one that looks good. Before you go out and buy carpet you need to know a bit about it. In order to help you narrow it down we've developed this article to help you with what to look for.
You have to consider quite a few factors when looking at carpets. Whatever your allotted budget for a carpet, you want to make sure you are getting your money's worth. The carpet specification label, which is supposed to be on all carpet samples, can tell you a great deal about the quality of the carpet. From one glance at this label you can find out all of the most important things about the carpet, such as the fiber used to make it and the pile density. This is a simple way to determine if the carpet you're considering is a good value or not. While all carpet samples have these labels, some sellers remove them before showing the samples to customers. You are better off not buying your carpet from a store that removes this label, as they are obviously trying to hide things from you. It's best to know all the facts about any carpet you are going to buy.
You also have to decide if you want an area rug or wall to wall carpeting. Wall to wall carpets are neat and cozy, but area rugs save you the trouble of measuring and installation. You can also easily take your area rug with you if you plan to move in the near future. People who want an old fashioned type of European or Oriental carpet also prefer various types of specialty area rugs. If you simply want a carpet to cover your entire floor, and you don't plan to move it around, you will probably prefer wall to wall carpeting.
A lot of people purchase carpets without knowing the full costs in the beginning. You generally purchase carpet based on the price per square foot, but there might be other unseen costs that you recognize in the end. Some of these, such as disposing of any old carpet or flooring, are not the responsibility of the carpet store, but you still should be aware of them. If the store will deliver the carpet to your house, know it this will be a part of the price or if it will be an extra fee.
If you order a carpet, make sure you are clear about how installation is included, and if not, how much it will be in addition. A lot of times, when you get your new carpet installed, you might be mailed an invoice for the labor involved in moving your furniture out of the way, or for materials like adhesives for installing the carpet. Take time to research your carpet as it is one of the most important factors to consider in your home. Your carpet is meant to be not only decorative but durable to withstand your family walking on it each day. You will find a great carpet that will last a while if you follow these tips and do your research ahead of time.
