The latest report showed that there are at least 30,000 injuries related to bunk beds. This statistic is the reason why a lot of people are thinking whether having a bunk bed is really safe for their children or not. This article will be showing you the things that made bunk beds unsafe, and the things that you can do to minimize or eliminate the risks.
Bunk beds are very dangerous especially for children below six years old, which is why I always advise parents not to let their younger child to stay at the top deck. This will help them prevent the chances of falling off the top deck. If ever you have two children whose age is 6 below, then I would advise you to get two single beds instead. Although this may cost a lot more than a bunk bed, always keep in mind that the safety of your child is more important than your budget.
Another thing that you can do in order to minimize the risks of bunk bed related injuries is to place railings on the side of the bed. This will provide added protection, minimizing the chances of falling off the bed. If you are going to place a guardrail, make sure that it is sturdy enough to handle the weight of the person using the top deck. Another thing that you need to remember when placing a guardrail is never to use guardrails higher or lower than 5 inches.
And the last thing that you need to remember is to assemble the parts of a bunk bed carefully. Although anyone could put these parts together, you need to make sure that the bed is sturdy and won’t shake while someone is using the top deck. This will greatly reduce the risks associated with bunk beds. Make sure that there are no loose screws, nails, and parts. Always keep in mind that a smallest mistake in assembling the bunk beds could cause injuries to your children.
These are some of the most important things that you need to remember when using a bunk bed. Always keep in mind that more than your budget, the safety and comfort of your child should always be considered first. As the saying goes; "It’s better to be safe than sorry" If you want to know more about bunk bed safety tips, you can use the Internet to look for other tips that will help you enhance the safety level of a bunk bed.
