Leak detector is an instrument which detects any leakage in pipes and sewerages. This detector can spot any leak which may be of water or gas pipelines. Leak detectors are an important instrument and extremely beneficial because it helps to save water and gases which are going to waste and with cost attached to them.
Leak detectors are used on pipelines because they are the most common mode of transporting water, gas and other form of fluids from one place to another and the distance covered can go up to thousand of miles even. Leak detectors are used on such lines in order to get correct information about any leakage and where exactly the leak is taking place.
Leak detectors are important because they are used for safety as well. Such as in chemical and gas industry leak detectors are one of the most important instrument to be kept there because if any harmful gas or liquid is leaking then the detector will immediately alert the people of the leaks and this in turn will save the lives of the people working there as the gases are very harmful to inhale and people will die of suffocation.
Secondly apart from the harmful gases irritating the people around leak detectors are beneficial because they tell the exact location of the leak and this will help save extra the gas or liquid that may escape where the leak has taken place. If the leak is found as early as possible this helps to save on the money of the liquid or gas which is being used for different purposes.
There are various types of leak detectors available in the market. You can choose from the wide range of detectors which will be suitable for your needs. There are detectors available which has visual and spot the leak through using density and heat to spot the leak such as the infrared detectors. There is also a vapor sensing tube which relies on the smell and chemical reaction that the leak produces in order to detect them.
Apart from these detectors there are helium detectors available in the market as well. These detectors are very handy and useful and they are a small device which can be carried in your hand and this device can immediately detect any leak where it is passed through.
There are basically two methods by which helium detectors function. One is the spray probe which provides the maximum sensitivity and the system which is under test required direct hooking in the helium leak detector. This process helps find the leak immediately as the helium is passed through the pipelines and this shows the results immediately.
The other method of using helium detector is the sniffer probe. This detection provides a moderate source of sensitivity and is more flexible than spray probe. In this process the helium is passed through the pipelines as helium is lighter than other gases and this helps to detect the exact place of leaks immediately.
