It is the goal of this article to clarify how many of hours of work experience is required to be eligible to be receive a positive provisional TRA skills assessment to support your subclass 485 Skilled Graduate Temporary Visa.
Historical Requirement of 900 Hours Training No Longer Applicable
900hours of training is no longer required and is not the required work experience standard as at the writing of this article - 3 February 2011. This training, or work experience requirement, was relevant to a positive skills assessment out come from TRA before the job ready programme and provisional to final skills assessment outcomes were put into place.
Current Applicable Work Experience Requirement
Work experience should be at least 16 hours per week of work (two full days) over a six month period. This can be calculated as 416 working hours.
This experience may be completed with more than one employer. It can also be completed intensively over a shorter period or over a longer period of time if you are working less than two full time days.
NOTE WELL. To count towards your provisional subclass 485 TRA skills assessment the work experience (training) must be supervised by a qualified tradesperson. This does not mean the owner of the business supervising you but a person holding suitable Australian trade qualifications in the relevant trade.
Further Requirements to Successfully Lodge Your Subclass 485 TRA Provisional Skills Assessment
To be eligible to apply for a Provisional Skills Assessment you must have -

A visa class that allows you to be in Australia

An AQF qualification awarded as a result of study in Australia in an occupation assessed by TRA
-
Work experience performed in Australia that demonstrates a range of tasks and duties of the occupation in which you are qualified, such work experience having been supervised by a qualified tradesperson

An IELTS score of 6 or greater in each of the 4 components unless you hold an exmpt passport - UK, United Kingdom (UK), Canada, NZ, USA, Republic of Ireland

Paid the AUD $300.00 Provisional Skills Assessment Fee
When you have registered your details on the Online Application, you will need to Sign In and complete the Provisional Skills Assessment eligibility criteria questions. If you do not answer all the questions or do not meet the eligibility criteria, you will be unable to submit your application.
After Your Online TRA Provisional Skills Assessment is Lodged
When you have submitted your application online you will be required to send the following supporting documentation to TRA within 30 working days -

Provisional Skills Assessment Summary printed from the Job Ready Online Application

Signed Applicant Declaration for Documents Submitted

Payment receipt from TRA Easy Pay website

Certified copy of your passport biographical identification page.

Certified copy of your AQF qualification and full transcript of results

Certified copy of your IELTS result (unless you hold a valid passport from and are a citizen of the UK, Ireland, NZ, USA or Canada)

A statement from your employer about your work experience in Australia over at least 6 months. The statement must detail the occupation in which you were employed; exact periods of employment; and a description of the nature and content of your work along with the machines, tools and equipment used
You are required to submit the above documents within 30 working days or , unless you advise TRA that you cannot provide these documents within this time, your application will be assessed as unsuccessful.
If your TRA Provisional skills assessment application is incomplete or inaccurate or you do not satisfy all applicable requirements, then the application will most likely fail and be refused.
