Netbook computers are relatively new pieces of kit that have changed the face of the IT industry. Mobile computing has been around for years but the problem is – it was never very good.

Laptops were designed to be portable but they tend to be pretty bulky and with people effectively replacing their desktop machines with laptops, the demand for a larger screen size has meant that laptops are just the desktops of the 2000’s.

So if you want to travel with your computer, you can either buy a netbook or a tablet computer. Tablet computers look great but they are often not very practical especially if you yearn for a keyboard and not a touch screen!

If you have not yet guessed we are very much in the netbook camp. In this article we are going to run through some of the uses for a netbook computer, so if you have considered buying one, listen up as we complete your decision!

Netbooks are great for travelling with

First and foremost, as a mobile computer, the netbook is brilliant to travel with. Most have a screen size of around 10 inches so they are small and light weight. If you have been lugging a laptop around with you, now is the time to change.

You can watch video on your netbook

If you want to watch YouTube videos or catch up on your favourite TV series online, watching them on your netbook is more than possible however; you will need to buy a decent model. All netbooks are equipped to deal with basic processes but playing video is one of the tougher challenges for netbooks.

Great for light work

If you only have a few tasks to do such as composing emails, writing letters and other admin jobs, using the netbook is perfect. Netbooks are fast and lightweight, and because they are not used as a main computer they generally stay this way. For example I can be up and going within 3 minutes on my netbook, but my laptop takes much longer despite technically being quicker. This is because my laptop has lots of things installed on it where my netbook remains relatively clean.

Good for reading

You don’t need a fancy iPad or a Kindle to read books, just download and read them on your netbook! Ok you don’t have a fancy touch screen or stylus but for light reading the netbook works just fine.

There are multiple other enormous benefits to running a netbook alongside your desktop set up – the ability to sync your documents with applications like Dropbox, listening to music on the go or using Skype to make mobile calls... the list goes on.
