Although our electronic equipment will have surge protection at time this may not be good enough to prevent an issue. Most of the time these surges will only last for a few milliseconds and generally the PSU (power supply unit) can handle this, as it’s able to filter small changes like this. The problem can be with high voltage, which can surge for a number of reasons and we need to try and insulate against this and do our best to keep electronic circuit away from sure events as they can really have a dramatic impact on your equipment.

There are many different reasons why this can happen so lets take a look at them to give you a better understanding why and how. If for some reason there a power outage in your home and you’ve had no power for a period of time it’s advisable to plug out your equipment from the wall socket. The reason for this is simple, when electric is switched back on you can get a sudden power surge and if you have no protection on place this might cause a big issue for the equipment you have.
Lighting strikes are another problem and depending where they happen can really make power surge. If you see lighting plug out you equipment, plug out phones lines and any type of cable equipment. Although this is very rare it’s can happen so it’s better to be prepared just in the unlikely event of this happening.
Sometimes household appliances can also cause slight power jumps in your home. Most of us have a refrigerator in our kitchens and when the motor is switching on and off it can lower the power in the electric circuits and push power up when going off. Generally this is not an issue and your fuse box in your home will trip if this is an issue.
Many big business will have a UPS in place for vital equipment that they want to make sure if protected and also will not drop if there’s an issue with power. Some people will also have this at home for computer equipment, one to protect against sudden power outages and of course any surge that might happen.
