Mosquitoes are known to be a common vector of fatal diseases including malaria, dengue, Japanese encephalitis, Yellow fever, and West Nile virus. Mosquitoes bites their victim regardless of the person’s race, economic status, or gender. This is the reason why everyone should be extra cautious especially when going out on an outdoor activity where protection against mosquito bites can be very minimal. You can never tell when these disease carrier insects will attack.
All of us know that mosquitoes are blood sucking insects. However, there is one fact about this tiny flying insect that only few people know about. Mosquitoes do not only infect humans. Even the dogs have problems with this nasty mosquito bites. But do you know that not all mosquitoes are blood suckers? This might amaze you but it is definitely true that only female mosquitoes suck out blood form humans or other animals. More so, they do not feed with fresh blood their entire lifetime. Truth of the matter is these insects spend most of their life time feeding on nectars of flowers like the honey bees does. They will only need to suck on human or animal blood if they are pregnant. This is because they will need to feed themselves with animal proteins in order for them to produce the eggs. This is the reason why mosquitoes suck blood from us humans, and other animals. Thus, this supports the fact that only female mosquitoes are blood suckers. Male mosquitoes survive by feeding on the nectars of the flowers.
Although not all mosquitoes are disease carriers and not all bites are infectious, you should still be vigilant in protecting yourselves against mosquito bites. You can never tell whether or not a specific mosquito that gets near you is a disease carrier or not. This is unless you are an entomologist who is an expert about the different types of mosquitoes. As mentioned above, mosquitoes are known vectors of a lot of death causing diseases. This blood suckers infect humans and other animals when they bite and suck blood. When the infected mosquito sucks your blood, they leave behind the disease causing microorganisms. This is when you get the disease.
There are also times when a mosquito which does not carry a disease happens to bite and suck blood from an infected person transfer the disease to other human being. For instance, a non disease carrier mosquito sucked blood from a person who has malaria and then sucks the blood of another person who does not have malaria; the mosquito can transfer the parasite that he has sucked from the malaria infected person to the other healthy person.
Mosquito, as tiny as they seem can be the vector of deadly diseases. To spare yourself or your family from acquiring these diseases might as well do preventive measures. As they say, prevention is better than cure which is so true. To stop the mosquitoes from spreading these diseases, you need to eliminate the root cause of the problem. Make sure that your surroundings are clean and that there are no breeding grounds for mosquitoes.
