For most people, sooner or later circumstances catch up to them and they will get a speeding ticket or some type of moving violation as it’s called. Whether you wish to fight this or not depends on the person, the circumstances of the ticket, and your knowledge about how to beat traffic tickets. This article will attempt to give you the motivation to fight a traffic ticket next time you are unfortunate enough to get one.
Why were you chosen to get the speeding ticket when everybody else was also going just as fast? A valid question, but not something you would want to argue with a traffic cop. You see they normally pull over dozens of people each day during a routine work day, and the last thing they want to hear is your argument, no matter how logical it sounds. However you should note the exact speed in which you were going, especially if it is different than the officer states in the summons. You may be able to argue that the radar device has not been calibrated correctly, which may be the case. Take note of every detail you can, since the weather, traffic conditions, and other factors may offer you some extenuating circumstances in which to argue if you need to go to court and fight the violation. Even police make mistakes sometimes, so be prepared to point it out if you find one.
If this is not your first violation, you may even want to consider getting an attorney who specializes in fighting traffic tickets. They are knowledgeable about any local laws and state laws, and if you are looking at a stiff fine and points against your license it may pay you to bring out heavy ammunition for a change. There are loopholes that a good attorney can find, and save you money in the long run if you cannot easily find a way around the ticket yourself. Of course, fighting yourself is the preferred route since it will save you even more cash. Know your local laws regarding the violation you received, and this knowledge may also lead to a solution.
In conclusion it is possible to fight a traffic ticket, be sure to remember not to antagonize the officer first, take notes of your surroundings and exact circumstances of the event, and keep in mind that you may be able to get off from paying the violation if you can find a valid point or loophole that puts the officer or the law in doubt. Don’t pay if you don’t have to, is my motto!
