Wearable cameras are the best gadgets that let you capture still shots and record video footage of your experience even if you don't have someone to take shots of you and for you. These body worn cameras come with harnesses that can be strapped to your body so these can be attached to your chest, wrist or shoulders so you can still do what you love to do without having to drag anybody along to your expeditions. There are many wearable cameras available in the market today, and they come in all price ranges, too. However, not all brands are the same. Even among those cameras of different brands having the same prices, the video or sound quality is markedly different. There are times when even the more expensive camera only gives mediocre pictures or poor video quality compared to another one that sells for a cheaper price. Admittedly, it can be difficult to sift through the many choices available in the market today. However, if you stick to the basics, you should be able to get an excellent body worn camera at a fairly reasonable price. Here are a few things to consider:
-
Look for a body worn camera that gives high definition video and clear still pictures. While those that give video resolutions lower than 1080p are still available, they're hardly worth the buy when you'll get HD by simply adding a few dollars. Besides, HD cams give better quality footages since they can record many frames per second for more detailed views.
-
Check for sound quality. This is another feature that you need to consider in your search for the perfect wearable camera. Sound definitely completes the action and thrill of a point of view camera experience. If a particular model gives great video but poor sound quality, look for another one. There are models out that that combine these two features for a reasonable price.
-
Get a durable camera. Take note that these mounted cameras are usually used for action-packed activities. Make sure that the camera you choose can withstand serious falls and bumps as falls are inevitable in any extreme sport should the camera not be securely mounted. If the camera itself cannot bear up the impact from considerable heights, it should at least have a durable protective housing that will encase the camera itself. The housing should not also break or detach from the camera easily.
-
Look for a waterproof camera. If you are going to be using your camera for snorkeling or other underwater activities, then a waterproof camera, not a water resistant one, will suit your purpose.
-
Always factor in price. A decent quality video camera usually falls within the $200-$300 price range. If you are into professional video and picture-taking, then it's not impossible for a professional grade camera to set you back a couple of thousand dollars. So decide what kind of wearable camera you need for your purpose. There's no sense buying one with all the frills when all you need is to take scenes and footage while biking around the city for personal purposes.
