Milton Keynes Library
The most popular and by far the most extensive library is the Milton Keynes Library and the building spans two floors. As well as books, there are many computers that can be used by the public for free for 30 minutes at a time and they boast an internet connection as well as printing services. There is a huge mural that was painted onto the inner wall of the library when it first opened and this picture is one of the most recognisable pieces of art on display in the town. Milton Keynes Library is famed for its huge roof and large, open rooms with huge windows that go from floor to roof that give it lots of light. The library hosts many art exhibitions throughout the year, from artwork produced by local schools and colleges through to charity and fundraising artwork.
The main MK Library offers story time sessions for children of all ages and the library is open every day, apart from Sunday. Thursday and Friday see the library open from 09:00 through to 20:00, Saturday, it closes at 17:00 and Monday through to Wednesday it closes at 18:00. Under fives can enjoy the sing-a-long sessions on offer and there are even baby sessions available for children under the age of two. Last year, 23,379 people attended the story time sessions for children and 13,437 joined the library for the first time proving just how popular the MK library is!
Bletchley Library
One of the other more popular libraries in Milton Keynes is the one located in Bletchley to the south of the town centre and parking here is free! As well as books, faxing, printing, photocopying and even laminating services are amongst the services available and Wi-Fi and laptop loans are very popular with visitors.
Stony Stratford Library
At the opposite end of the town in the north of Milton Keynes is a village called Stony Stratford and the library here is often used by people who don’t want to head all the way to the centre of Milton Keynes. There are two disabled parking spaces by the library and it offers similar service to the library found in Bletchley.
Kingston Library
Over to the west of the town is Kingston Library and parking spaces are easy to find in the large car park found at the increasingly popular Kingston Shopping Centre. Story time sessions are popular here too and there is also a nursery nearby that looks after the children who attend the story telling sessions.
Other MK Libraries
Other popular libraries in the region include Newport Pagnell, Westcroft, Woburn Sands, Olney and Wolverton. The Open University also has a vast library and the Milton Keynes Council offers a mobile library service that travels around the housing estates to places such as Melrose Avenue, Windmill Hill, Shenley Lodge and Little Crawley as well as Bow Brickhill, Walnut Tree and many other areas.
Guide dogs are welcome at all of the libraries in Milton Keynes and wheelchair access is also available.
Wherever you live in Milton Keynes, it is easy to find a library near you that can cater to your needs, whether you want to make use of the books, the story telling sessions or the computers. Everyone from bookworms to students will enjoy the offerings in the area and all you have to do is become a member to enjoy the endless services.
