One lucky thirteen-year-old, Morgan Pozgar, of Claysburg, Pa., was crowned LG National Texting champion in 2007 after she typed the tongue twister "supercalifragilisticexpialidocious" from "Mary Poppins" in 15 seconds.
When asked what she was going to spend her $25,000 prize from the electronics company LG on, she replied "I'm going to go shopping and buy lots of clothes,".
Defeating nearly 200 other competitors at the Roseland Ballroom in Manhattan to become East Coast champion, Pozgar then beat West Coast champion Eli Tirosh, 21, of Los Angeles texting the message: "Supercalifragilisticexpialidoucious! Even though the sound of it is something quite atrocious. If you say it loud enough you'll always sound precocious."
She estimated that she sends more than 8,000 text messages a month to her friends and family.
Then in 2009 we were amazed to see that last year's contest was won by 15-year old Kate Moore, from Des Moines, Iowa, but now be prepared for more surprises.
LG Mobile Phones announced that Brooklyn 13 year-old Brianna Hendrickson was the winner of the fourth annual LG U.S. National Texting Championship in 2010.
All the contestants used LG Ally devices, copying phrases and sentences as they appeared on the screens over head.
The new champion took home $50,000 this time, and is now ready to compete in the LG Text For Good Challenge, where she will have the chance to double her prize money and also select a charity to which LG will make a $50,000 donation.
Brianna sends on average 7,000 text messages a month, so we hope that prize money will cover some of her sky scraper bills!
Brianna snatched the competition's big prize by typing the phrase, "Old McDonald had a farm, Ei, ei, oh! And on this farm he had a champ. W/a txtr here, and BFF there. Here a text, there a text, everywhere a text-text!"
This text, which is obviously a text speak adaptation of the original classic song Old McDonald Had a Farm, was completed by Brianna without errors, in 60 seconds using her LG Ally handset.
"I was really nervous when I saw the final phrase and worried my fingers wouldn’t be fast enough," said champion Brianna.
"Hearing my name announced was amazing and shocking all at the same time. I can’t believe I won and I’m looking forward to continuing the competition at the LG Text For Good Challenge," She continued.
On a side note, Brianna managed to win the competition against an initial pool of 500,000 contestants, competing in events such as Text Attack, Blind Texting, Text Blitz and Do U Spk Txt.
