Replacement windows in Virginia come in many different shapes, styles and colors. The homeowner or decorator must choose the one that best suits the amount of light, air and privacy. Window treatments can be added as needed. Some styles have unlimited designs that can make the Virginia replacement windows look unique from anything found elsewhere in the neighborhood. When a homeowner is ready to put in replacement windows, it is important that they choose the products carefully, as the windows will last for several years.
Types
Windows can open in a number of different ways. Each method has a name. For example, double-hung windows are typically divided into two sections. The bottom and top sections are both movable. The most popular method of opening these windows is to raise the bottom half. Sliding windows open from side to side on a runner. Casement and awning windows extend outward with a rotating handle or lever. Bay or Bow windows jut out of the wall toward the outside in panels of three or four. Some open; others do not.
Grid Styles
The grid style of windows in Virginia Beach vary. The most traditional type is called Colonial. It has square dividers across the window pane, creating four, six or nine panes in the window design, depending on the type of window selected. Diamond styles are criss-crossed across the entire expanse of the window breadth and add a flair of elegance or fanciness to the overall look of the room. The prairie cut features four overlapping bars on the inner perimeter of the window. The double prairie has two sets of parallel bars in the same type of pattern.
Moulding
The moulding around a window can change its entire appearance. It can be plain or ornate. It can blend in or stand out. Bright, contrasting colors can make them look sharp. Colors that match or blend in with the house have a completely different, subdued look. On the interior, faux wood can be chosen to match the furniture. It can also be selected as a neutral color that will blend with just about anything furnished in the room over time. From the exterior view, window moulding can be coordinated with the front door, trim, garage and shutters for a more modern look.
Care
When a contractor installs new or replacement vinyl windows, the contractor should take the time to explain their care to the homeowner. While it is minimal to provide upkeep, the method of cleaning and hosing is important for proper upkeep. The homeowner also needs to know how to open and close, as well as remove them.
