Maths games are a fantastic way to learn Maths. Although you might not usually equate games with academia, they're an effective vehicle to explain a concept. There are a number of clear advantages of using games for maths.
Communication
Many games involve more than one player. This means that the children are required to interact with each other, both through listening and talking. While playing, they'll need to discuss rules and the state of play. At home, the parent or guardian has to interact with the child.
Intellectual Development And Higher Order Thinking
Math games require logic and reasoning, both of which are important tools for life. They're a fantastic way to help children develop their intellectual stamina. Such games also require the children to manipulate data and transform their ideas as the game progresses.
Problem Solving
As a maths games develops so the players have to react to different situations as they arise. They have to be able to modify their ideas to accommodate the progression of the game. Problem solving is a large part of such games and can be transferred into other areas of life.
Fair PLAY
A game always ends with victory or defeat. It's important to be able to both win and lose graciously and recognize a good game, not just the outcome of it. Whether playing alone or with others the concept of fair play and honesty plays a large part.
Imagination
Once they've played a game for maths you could go a step further and see if they're capable of creating their own maths games. This involves creating a main theme and rules. It's a fantastic extension to game playing and allows the children to not only be creative but use the concepts they've learnt.
Learning From Others
Playing mathematics games with others is a fantastic way to gain a different perspective. Doing so can help children to develop skills they probably wouldn't have learnt independently and be open to new ideas and concepts from their peers.
Stimulating
Maths games are fun and stimulating. If a child enjoys the learning process then it's more likely that the purpose of the exercise will stay with them. Plus, they'll be less aware they're learning thereby making the pressure and stress on the child to perform less.
Independent Learning
Many children aren't so keen on homework and revising outside the classroom. However, because maths games don't feel so academic they're fantastic revision tools to encourage the child.
The Range
The range of games available is vast. Online you can find a plethora of interesting and amusing games for different areas of maths to suit any child's learning style.
Maths games are able to help a child both educationally and socially. Numerous games for maths can be found online for a multitude of levels and learning styles.
Maths games are a fantastic educational tool. By making learning more enjoyable and stimulating the children are able to take in information more effectively. However, the beauty of the games is that they extend out from simply academia and help the child improve on a number of additional, social levels.
