While rainbows are beautiful and convey a positive message to anyone who sees it, the opposite is true when it comes to business logos. Your logo says a lot about your business and although a rainbow can be inspirational, having all the colors of the rainbow in your logo design can give anyone looking at it a headache and cause pessimism instead of enthusiasm over your company.
It is no secret that rainbows are pretty. However, your business is much more than being pretty and there should be value and meaning attached to your logo instead of just being attractive and nice. Having a logo that is too colorful can divert the attention of consumers from the message you are trying to convey and you might end up failing to make a statement with your logo because of the multiple colors used in the design. Color choice is important when it comes to the design of a logo. Each color has a different meaning and sends a different message to consumers. The colors you choose for your logo should reinforce the message and the story you are trying to get across to potential clients. If you choose too many colors, you end up confusing customers as to what your company is really about. Just stick to two or three colors with an appropriate psychological meaning to avoid being misinterpreted by consumers.
On a technical side, using too many colors in your logo can make printing difficult and costly. Although brochures, business cards, and leaflets can be produced through digital printing at a low cost, other marketing materials such as business envelopes and letterheads are harder to produce especially as digitally printing these materials can lead to low quality output. Flimsy paper is also commonly used for digital printing which is not suitable for business envelopes and letterheads. Printing of some items for marketing and promotional purposes also cannot be done through digital printing and other options are charged based on the number of colors used. Keep your logo simple and you’ll see that rainbows really are meant to stay in the sky.
