If you’ve ever wondered why you see the same links pop up when you certain searches, you can attribute that to search engine optimization (SEO). Every website that is truly serious about generating interest employs some form of SEO tactics; you just might not be aware of it. Whether it’s Google, Yahoo or Bing, optimizing a website using key words and phrases will increase the number of visitors and it can really help improve revenue. Put plainly, more people visiting a website means more money is being spent on the products or services that you’re offering through your site.

One of the most effective ways to increase traffic is by writing content that utilizes certain keywords. If you are offering a particular product, say picture frames for instance, you should have content written that utilizes keywords associated with picture frames. How specific the keywords are will determine how relevant the website is during certain searches. A general rule of thumb is to put the keyword somewhere in the website’s first sentence and then a couple of times in the body of the content. When a search engine answers a query for that word, it will understand that the number of uses makes it a relevant search result. This is one of the ways those familiar sites keep popping up in the first page or so.

Article directories are also a great way of utilizing search engine optimization tactics to improve traffic. Articles written for these directories are optimized themselves. They’re usually about 400 words long, with the keyword used once every hundred words. The key is to make the content interesting, because no one wants to read a boring article. Hopefully, this article isn’t boring to you-especially if you’ve read this far. If the content is informative and interesting, readers are likely to use the information provided and click on the links with in the article. Back links are nothing more than links that connect different websites to one another. One tactic that has been shown to work really well is for a company to participate in forums that are relevant to their products or services and then use a link to their website as part of their signature. While this is a good strategy to get your products noticed, be careful that you’re actually contributing to the conversation and not posting purely for advertising’s sake. No one likes a spammer-really, no one likes spammers. Besides other spammers, that is. Links can also be left on blogs and other websites, since most people don’t mind if links are left on their sites. Just don’t go wild with it, or you might make more enemies than friends.
