Mr & Mrs Small owned a detached property in Hampshire and were looking to extend their home to meet the growing needs and requirements of their family. Extensive research and investigation, gave them the idea of creating an Orangery type structure onto the back of their home taking up otherwise unused space on their patio. Orangeries, thought previously to be quite traditional, are a growing trend in the home extension industry, allowing homeowners to create this open plan living space, increasingly sought after, and was the perfect solution for the Small family.

"We wanted to make use of the unused space on our patio to create more space in the house. This was done by adding a lovely orangery which brings in the light and makes our kitchen a much more socially room" says Mrs Small.

An Orangery can be built new or created out of an existing extension, it includes glazed elements such as roof lights and folding sliding doors. An orangery allowed Mr and Mrs Small to extend their kitchen and create a dining area and separate living space. Their orangery design has been used to combine their traditional period property with a contemporary kitchen extension.

The glazed features added into this orangery design brightened up a dark house and enabled Mr & Mrs Small to bring the beauty of the outdoors seamlessly into their kitchen. To complement the doors in the orangery design Mr and Mrs Small decided to use matching folding sliding doors on another part of the house so they matched the orangery.

The orangery designed for Mr and Mrs Small measured 4.3m x 4.9m and included three sets of folding sliding doors and a roof light. All these elements where manufactured with glass and aluminium and powder coated in a slate grey to create and orangery, which complemented the house perfectly.
