Clean up Your Act
Cleaning up the filters of your heater and air conditioner will improve performance, lower the cost of operation and, as a bonus, will help clean the air in your home.
Energy Star
Another good way to save money on home appliances is to buy appliances that have Energy Star approval. Energy Star labels indicate that the appliance meets federal standards on energy efficiency. In some industries, for example plasma TV’s, manufacturers have been able to reduce energy consumption by up to twenty-five percent year-to-year. With improved manufacturing techniques new products can operate much more efficiently.
Get a Checkup
Have Electric AZ to come to your house (or commercial operation) to check the heating, cooling and ventilation systems. We don’t think about these important things until they go wrong. That's a little like not exercising and then being surprised by a heart attack. For example, leaking ducts can reduce the energy efficiency of your home by up to twenty percent. Inspection only costs a few dollars but you will make that up in reduced energy usage.
Light me Up
Although incandescent bulbs are on their way out, Electric AZ was surprised how many are still in American homes. Just swapping out one incandescent ball for a compact fluorescent bulb will save over thirty bucks in ten years. As a bonus, CFL's do not generate as much heat which will keep your home cooler.
Unplugged
Did you know that your cell phone charger is still using energy even when you're not using it? The same is true for your microwave and many other appliances. In fact, the power used by appliances that are not even in current use can be as much as ten percent of the houses energy bill.
It's All in the Timing
Electric Service Arizona recommends that you do not run dryers, washers, ovens, or dishwashers during the day when the house is already hot from the sun. Running appliances creates a tremendous amount of heat which just makes your air conditioner work harder. Save your chores till the sun goes down. Throw in a load of laundry and watch your favorite TV show--by the time the show is over you are done!
Seal it with a Kiss
Electric AZ research show that many homes can lose up to twenty percent of their heat through leaky doors and windows. Buy inexpensive weather-stripping and plug those leaky areas. Also, take a look at your insulation—you might that is has diminished over time. In some cases insulation materials are eligible for energy efficiency tax credits from the federal government.
