As an internet marketer, you need to make sure that your website is as good as it can possibly be. Putting up a simple, one-page site and nothing more won't make you the money you're looking for. You should know by now that nothing in internet marketing is as easy as it seems. But creating a site that is effective for your business doesn't need to be hard. Your site can have a greatly increased impact on your visitors with some time, knowledge, and a little effort. So keep reading to learn how you can accomplish that.
Your website should have a good balance between graphics and written content. If you are like many internet marketers, your instinct may be to use many images and not much text. The assumption is that people nowadays have short attention spans and don't want to do much reading. Once again, it's a question of balance; you don't want to use too much text or too many images on your pages. One problem with too many images is that it makes your website take longer to load on people's computers. There is also the problem that people might think that you are mainly using pictures to sell an item because it doesn't have enough good qualities that you can write about it. The trick is to use both graphics and text in such a way that neither is over-used or under-used.
Having an automatic soundtrack on your website may seem like a good idea, but it's something you should avoid. Webmasters use automatically playing sounds or videos because they definitely capture the attention of visitors, but not necessarily in a good way. When a loud voice or soundtrack is the first thing people notice about your site, they may very well leave without bothering to check out your offers at all. People may be open to listening to an audio file or watching a video, but they want to be able to choose to open it themselves. Consider that you could be losing thousands of dollars in sold products if your sound or video is automated and causing people to click away from your site.
Popup windows are another "in your face" kind of device that many visitors won't appreciate.
Popup windows are usually designed to get visitors' personal information; however, why should they want to give you this before they've even had a chance to view your site (and they can't see your site if it's covered over by the popup window)? Forcing site visitors to deal with pop ups is just bad business. If you are using popups, you could be driving away many potential buyers from your site!
Don't use popup windows to keep people from leaving your site either. If someone wants to click away from your site, let them go. Don't distract or annoy them with a pop up window asking if they are sure they want to leave. Doing that will only ensure that they will not come back.
Once you get started, you'll find that it's not very difficult to make a quality website. Be willing to spend some time on it, and avoid going to extremes in anything. Taking your time to make sure your website looks good will be well worth it when the profits start coming in. Remember, having a website is not enough. If you want to make money on the internet, you need a good website that stands out.
