Mold is one of the types of fungus that thrives in moist or humid conditions. There are areas in your home that remains damp such as washrooms, kitchen and basements. Mold normally grows on the wall, discoloring it and corroding its paints. There are many types of illnesses and diseases that are caused by this common household pest. The only key to control black mold is to control excessive moisture.
There are several household products that can be used for cleaning black mold, but you have to make sure that you undertake the right method of cleaning. First of all, it is very important that you get the areas dried that have excessive water or moisture. Make sure you fix the leaking pipes.
Detergent is one of the best household products used to clean black mold from non-porous material such as glass and tiles. Although detergent cannot kill mold, the solution is only used to scrub the visible mold from the surfaces. Detergent is best suitable for non-porous surfaces, as it can smoothly clear off the molds. Simply mix and stir detergent and water in a bucket and use a sponge to clean off the surface.
Next, you can also use baking soda on materials like carpets and cushions. You simply need to sprinkle baking soda over the carpet that has black mold so that it may absorb the mold. Leave it on the material for at least 30 minutes or overnight and use a vacuum to clean it. You can also use baking soda to clean off the floors.
Borax powder is perhaps the best cleaner for mold. All you need to do is to make a solution of 1 cup of borax powder in one cup of water. Then, use a sponge to scrub the toxin with the solution. After cleaning it off, you can leave some borax behind in order to prevent black mold from returning.
In case of hard surfaces, you can consider using a solution of water and vinegar. You can fill a plastic spray bottle with the solution and spray all those surfaces that are affected and later scrub it with a hard and tough brush.
Chlorine bleach is another proven method to get rid of this pest, especially from carpet and upholstery. You need to soak a sponge or a piece of cloth in the solution and swipe it across the mold.
Once you use all of these effective methods, your home will always be protected and black mold will never grow again.
